Maksim Ivanec was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, during the Perestroika. He started making electronic music when he was 17. However, his musical interests were much more varied than that, ranging from Britpop to Ambient, from Medieval lute music and Liquid Funk to Trip-Hop, Blues, Russian Orthodox spiritual music, and more. In 2012 Maksim started the Eispollaetidespota project together with a friend. In 2013, their first and only self-titled album was released via the independent Russian label USC Unlimited.
In 2020, Maksim started his personal musical project called ZARANKA. This word stands for a very special musical vision and creative labor. In this project, Maksim creates soundscapes that are woven around the themes of human emotion, spirit, nature and technology, and that are intended to make people introspect things and daydream. It’s an attempt to find harmony inside oneself and reconcile with the world. The melodies help to achieve this through their meditative vibe. Imagine sitting in quiet contemplation in a small house, by the hearth. You feel cozy and comfortable. Outside, there’s open, unexplored wilderness. These simple landscapes of the far North can only be understood if you watch them intently and with an open heart. Words are redundant, they conceal the deeper meaning of the music.
In his other life, Maksim lives in Saint Petersburg, constructs bridges and is busy bringing up three wonderful children.
