Lively inspired by the amazing feedback and big success of their “Natura Vol.01″ EP release, Weathertunes aka Roland & Daniel Voss decided to return to their studio to give birth to a second “Natura” experience. Passionately driven by their dedication to the primal forces of life, the concept of “Natura” seems to blossom more and more in multi-coloured facets and creative eruptions. Containing 7 brand-new tracks full of finest melodies and glittering sounds, the EP floats light as a feather through its 33 minutes run-time.

Dressed in various musical garment “Natura Vol.02″ shows how modern Lounge music should sound like. Taking off with life-affirming positivity “Morning Sun” instantly puts a smile on our face, with a gentle guitar motif gliding on a laid-back groove. While “Skywalker” impresses with a dreamy trumpet melody played by Tim Gelo (alias Velvet Dreamer), “Arizona Dream” sets fine Western guitars on a cool bass hook. In respect and dedication to the primal forces of life “Weathertunes” aka Daniel & Roland Voss gave birth to a new EP project called “Natura”. With a keen sense for nature’s mysterious beauty the two brothers had the innermost wish to express their gratitude to the elements around them. Their home-base is located in a nature reserve area in North-Western Germany, where nature has a fundamental impact on their daily life. Since more than 15 years Roland & Daniel spread the seeds of good music. Deservedly emerging at the forefront of the Lounge, Chillout & Downtempo scene, their musical output is also considered as path-finding and genre-bending.

Organically set, the spectrum of the first EP release called “Natura Vol.01″ reaches wide arrays of deep and lush Downtempo pleasure in a vital way. Two years after their sun-drenched „Palm Beach“ album, Daniel and Roland Voss aka Weathertunes take us on an uplifting journey full of pulsating beats, giddy grooves and breezy vibes. Supported by three remarkable female singers from Japan and Scotland and German jazz musician Michael Arlt, their new album “Passions” goes straight into the heart and adds some nicely crafted facets to the world of pop music.

Right from the start, heavy mid-tempo beats keep on rolling into your eardrums. While the groovy „Paris At Night“ and „Vis-A-Vis“ allow space for frisky solo parts of saxophone, trumpet and flute, the uptempo latin track „That’s Right“ gains special lustre by Michael Arlt’s guitar performance. The following „Voodoo-Club“ leads into more sinister spheres where a diabolic voodoo priest laughs amidst the keys of a wicked organ.

After this juicy spread of upbeat instrumentals, the album changes in tone to make room for a string of magic vocal tracks. First comes Japanese singer WAWA with her softly exhaled and strangely dreamlike „Destiny“. The subsequent playful robe of „Passion“ allows singer Michelle Gibb not only to bow to Sade Adu but also to prove that the footprints of the giantess are not too big for her. Scottish singer Suzy Duffy then takes the listener by the hands and crosses over to the gentle groove of a perfect NuSoul act. Then it is WAWA again who crowns the rotunda of vocal pearls with a melancholic but danceable R&B track.

After these beautiful songs, the concluding set of tracks is dominated by more instrumental excursions. While „You Got It, Baby!“ ties in with the eccentric feel of „Voodoo Club“, the sunshiny vibe of „Bikini“ bridges to the luminous „That’s Right“. The following slow-motion beats and spheric sounds of „Forest“ are shaped once more by WAWA’s bitter-sweet phrasing. With Michael Arlt on guitar we take a trip back to the city of love where passions and dreams are carried away by the eternal pull of „La Seine“. If you can’t spare but 4:08 minutes, you must spend them on „Picnic“, a slow-motion house track which makes you spell b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l in your mind over and over again. „Sex is the Place“ takes singer Kay Dee into the limelight. Its lackadaisical, meandering shuffle makes you long for daytime love-making – a padded dream where the laws of gravity cease to exist. „The Sunny Side of Life“ pleases with a jazzy touch and vibrant groove that takes you on to lush pastures or plush surroundings, wherever your mind feels at home.

„The New Jazz Five“ comes as an autoritative spoken word performance. „All Night Long“ is the next convincing slo-mo little house number, before „Amazing Places“ picks up speed and leads to the accentuated latin beats of „My Night and Day“, adding a surprising touch that makes rhythm spread in your limbs and once more underlines the vocal skills of singer Kay Dee. On their third Weathertunes Album “Summer” Roland and Daniel Voss present a true summer album which lives up to all sunny expectations. More danceable and definitely with more groove than their preceding album, the tracks “Finest Things” and “At The Rio Bar” catch our attention with its dynamic, blissful and exuberant sound. What makes “Summer” tower above the flood of competing electronic productions is the tremendous diversity of sounds and the treasure box full of surprising samples the Voss brothers draw from.

The Weathertunes pave their own way and playfully build their tracks on HipHop Beats and Drum rhythms. Their outstanding accomplishment is an extremely laid-back groove which alternate between a vivacious fizz or a sinister glug. Scratched beats oppose warbled opera voices. The sound of dramatic violins lead into heavy breathing, and then the merry babble of a baby. And wasn’t that an elephant’s trumpet? The beats vary from feathery to booming. Flute, sax, piano, organ, clarinet or a funky bass – each song offers different arrangements. As constant accompaniment soothes the versatility of jazz guitarist Michael Arlt.

The wonderful achievement of the album is its coherent and highly agreeable sound in spite of all opposing elements. You can almost physically feel how much joy and creativity the Weathertunes have put into the production of their tracks. On repetitive listening, more and more details surface, toying with mind and soul. “Summer” is a feelgood gem, a friend on sunny and rainy days alike, an album bound to make you happy.

The project Weathertunes was born in the year 1999, and their first album „Characters“ was recorded and produced in Daniel and Roland Voss’ own studio in the Northwestern part of Germany. It was originally released on label Peacelounge Recordings in 2001 and is now being re-released on the Voss brothers’ own label Lemongrassmusic in MP3 format.

The 16 smoothly mixed tracks sound like the result of one long session: The vocal tracks “Closer” and “This Summer’s Fall” (voice: Daniel) seem to exude a vibrant atmosphere between lounge-feeling and the warmth of a campfire, and the warm, relaxing sound of “Taranta” feels like the acoustic equivalent of a seaside sundowner.
But Weathertunes have a few more aces up their sleeves: “Driftwood” comes in the shape of a somewhat avantgardistic dub track, and the easy breakbeats in “Space Love”, “Local Bridge” and “From The Bottom” are reminiscent of a sheer elegance.
On „Holidays“ the brothers have collaborated with Jazz guitarist Michael Arlt for the first time which marked the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship.

The album’s magic is based on the symbiotic relationship of two very different musical egos: the “big” brother Roland with over 20 years of experience as a jazz drummer and well over a decade of electronic music under his belt, and the younger one, Daniel who grew up on a diet of alternative rock, punk, pop and classical music – they complement one another like two ends of the same rainbow.

Meanwhile the project has revealed 6 longplayer albums and 2 EPs and is being well appreciated in many countires worldwide.
